    About

NORTH TEXAS AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE SCHOOL

North Texas ASL School started in August of 2018,  I have really enjoyed sharing the language and the culture with JR High and High School students.

My background includes an Associates Degree in the Interpreting Program from Dallas Community College. I was registered in the state of TX as an American Sign Language Interpreter. My first job as an interpreter was for Dallas Independent School District. As part of my job I also taught ASL to elementary students. After I resigned as an interpreter, I worked as a substitute interpreter and also a substitute deaf ed teacher.

School Info: NT ASL School got started with an intention to teach ASL for foreign language educational credit (transcript worthy). Most of my students are homeschooled. (I am a homeschool veteran of 24 years and counting.) My ASL students range in age from 6th - 12th grade (and even a couple of super seniors).

I use the curriculum MASTER ASL. http://www.masterasl.com/ Because I combine the curriculum with so many extras...we have been able to use this set of curriculum for ASL I and ASL II. (This is how most private and public sectors use this particular curriculum as well.) The curriculum is non-consumable ~ so one set is all a family (if siblings are taking the class together) needs to purchase.

My classes meet face to face one day a week in Anna, TX. And then, I send (via email) homework for the children to work on independently during the week. I feel like, in order to master a foreign language, we need to concentrate on it at least two days a week. I hold the children accountable to homework and special project deadlines. Parents will receive semester and final grades from me for your grade book/transcripts.

2021/2022 Fall Schedule:

ASL I Tuesdays 1:30-2:30 pm

ASL II Tuesdays 3:00-4:00 pm

ASL III Thursdays 1:30-2:30 pm

ASL IV Thursdays 3:00-4:00 pm

I am a hearing person...I feel like an ASL student needs to meet and chat with the deaf community. I encourage this and make those opportunities available.

Tuition: I charge $45/month ($35/month per sibling of the same family) due on the first class of the month. I accept cash, check and pay pal. (Families will purchase their own curriculum.)

Lastly, I love to have fun. We play fun games with vocabulary. I assign special projects.
